Countdown to NLC: Growing Forest Stewardship, Less Time on Admin
As we seek to grow forest stewardship together, the outreach, education, and recognition you offer to landowners in your state is vital. We’re working with volunteers and partners to remove barriers that commonly prevent landowners from participating in active stewardship. To do this, we’re committed to investing in new innovations and resources to help streamline landowner enrollment, maximize forester time, and create more value for landowners and foresters.
Removing Barriers: Reducing Administrative Workload
In our 2018 survey, we heard from state leaders that ATFS certification is an important part of the program. You also told us that administering and processing elements of ATFS certification takes a lot of time and effort, limiting the time you have to work directly with landowners.
One way we are working to remove this barrier is by investing in dedicated regional ATFS staff to take on elements of certification administration, among other important duties, so that state programs have more time to focus on landowner outreach, education and recognition. Applications for these positions are being accepted now, and once filled, we will begin working with interested states in each region to implement strategies to reduce the administrative workload for state programs.
Continuing the Conversation
We look forward to hearing your ideas and answering questions during the 2019 National Leadership Conference. Join Paul DeLong and Chris Erwin during our ATFS Open House concurrent sessions (Wednesday Feb. 27) to discuss plans & ideas for working with each state to reduce the amount of time you’re spending on administrating certification. Can’t make it to NLC? Share your thoughts with your state’s NLC representative, or reach out to ATFS staff. Remember, you can find the full countdown to NLC, along with more resources, on our website.
