California Department of Fish & Game (http://www.dfg.ca.gov)

Conserves and manages the state’s wildlife and aquatic resources.  Sources of information on threatened and endangered species include:

  • Biogeographic Data Branch (http://www.dfg.ca.gov/biogeodata/) – provides information on state and federal threatened and endangered plants and wildlife, habitats of particular conservation concern, and stewardship actions designed to benefit these important natural resources.

A free online mapping tool provides information on threatened and endangered species at the county level (http://www.dfg.ca.gov/biogeodata/cnddb).  The site also offers vegetation mapping, rare species tracking, and species range mapping.

  • State Wildlife Action Plan (http://www.dfg.ca.gov/wildlife/WAP/) – identifies fish and wildlife in greatest need of conservation, providing an overview of key species and habitats of conservation concern throughout the state.
