Answers to Inspectors’ Most Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is forest health just about invasive species?

A: Forest health addresses the full range of stressors that woodlands may be vulnerable to. While encroaching invasive species are important to address, be mindful of other risks. For example, residual slash after a thinning may increase the risk to a beetle outbreak in certain parts of the country. It is always important to talk to tree farmers about measures they should consider to promote the resilience of their property. When performing forest management activities, please remind tree farmers to address forest health concerns with their contractor and to include any related language in their contracts.
