South Carolina State Historic Preservation Office (http://shpo.sc.gov/) – provides assistance in identifying and protecting historic properties and other cultural sites in the state.  This office maintains ArchSite (http://archsite.cas.sc.edu/ArchSite/(d44p2bbjrgqxlr45tgfwijnt)/Login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fArchSite%2fDefault.aspx), an online Geographic Information System (GIS) that can be used to determine if a cultural resources survey has been performed in your area and if any historic or cultural resources are recorded there.

South Carolina Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology (SCIAA) (http://www.cas.sc.edu/SCIAA/) – works to protect and preserve archaeological sites and objects, including human burial sites.

South Carolina Department of Archives & History (http://scdah.sc.gov/) – identifies, preserves, and makes accessible records (such as census records, military records, family histories, and various county, state and federal records) and other documents that can help you research your special sites.
