The Oklahoma Historical Society (www.okhistory.org) preserves and promotes the state’s cultural heritage.  Programs of interest include:

State Historic Preservation Office (http://www.okhistory.org/shpo/shpom.htm) – provides assistance in identifying and protecting historic properties and other cultural sites in the state.  This office maintains a database of documented historic resources information, the Oklahoma Landmarks Inventory Database (http://www.ocgi.okstate.edu/shpo/), that is available for public research.

Archaeological Survey (http://www.ou.edu/cas/archsur/) – works to protect and preserve archaeological sites and objects, including human burial sites.

Oklahoma State Archives and Records Management (http://www.odl.state.ok.us/oar/) – identifies, preserves, and makes accessible records (such as census records, military records, family histories, and various county, state and federal records) and other documents of historical value to the state.
